Ding Darling Tarpon Tournament
LAST UPDATED: 08 April 2015

No, this is not a picture of a Tarpon. It's a 40 pound Black Drum landed on May 2nd by Zane Smith and John Pfeifer as they practiced for the upcoming Tarpon Tournament sponsored by Doc Fords!

Every year hopeful anglers from all over the world assemble their best team, gather their most reliable equipment and gear to hunt down and catch the elusive Tarpon. One of the largest Tarpon Tournaments happens each May to support the Ding Darling Wildlife Society, The Doc Ford's Tarpon Tournament. With nearly 50 teams of avid anglers, the Tarpon will be on the run.

2015's tournament included one of the youngest teams entered in the history of the Doc Ford's Tarpon Tournament. Known as the "Young Bucks", Pfeifer Realty Group is sponsoring these avid anglers: Zane Smith, John Pfeifer, and Harry Heuther. This team may be young but they are keenly familiar with the waters surrounding Sanibel, Captiva and Pine Island Sound. Zane Smith, a Freshman at FGCU grew up on Sanibel with a love of fishing from an early age and has fished these waters for over 12 years. John Pfeifer, a Sophomore at Canterbury moved to Sanibel when he was only 2 years old and obtained his boating license at the age of 11. John began exploring the waters on his own 5 years ago.
