LAST UPDATED: 10 June 2011

October 10th, 2011 SANIBEL ISLAND: Ever hear the expression "Red October"? Avid fishermen around Sanibel Island will tell you that this is when the Red Fish come into our waters to spawn. October is a great month for catching fish here! Photo: John Pfeifer with a Spanish Mackeral caught on a spoon off the Sundial.

Fun Fact: On November 4, 1984, David Deuel was fishing from the beach in Avon, North Carolina when he landed a 94 lb 2 oz. redfish also known as a Red Drum. He was fishing with mullet and fought the fish for 45 minutes. Redfish can be found throughout the country and love oyster beds and shallow mangrove waters.
