Sanibel Island To-Do List
LAST UPDATED: 01 April 2020

Whether you have a couple days to spend on Island, or a couple weeks, there are a few recommendations that we always give to our visitors. Sanibel is known for its abundant nature, endless amounts of sea shells, sunsets, sunrises and peaceful bike rides. When you’re here we hope you gain a big picture understanding of what Sanibel has to offer, and to do that we have collected some must-do activities to gain this perspective.

Stop by the Sanibel-Captiva Visitors Center and see what interests you about the Island, from there you can make a game plan of what is a must see for you before you leave the island.

Rent Bikes at Billy’s Bike Rentals. Sanibel is beautiful even if you are driving in your car, but there is something about taking a bike ride around the island. Feeling the warm breeze and sun hitting your skin, the birds flying around you, the smell of somebody barbecuing. If you’re looking for the full experience, bike around our quaint island.

Check out “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Half of Sanibel’s land is Wildlife Refuge. Better yet, bike through the Ding! See some of the animals Sanibel is known for, and relax in the peacefulness of this place.

Rent some Kayaks and experience Sanibel by the water. Explore some of the canals, and take a look at some of the beautiful canal-front homes- it could be your backyard before you know it! Keep an eye out for baby dolphins who are learning how to hunt on the sea walls, and manatees that find their way into our canals. Another great place to go for a Kayak ride is through Tarpon Bay, where you are bound to see a unique collection of birds and fish.

Take a scenic tour of Sanibel and Captiva on the Sanibel Thriller. A fast paced boat that speeds around the Island while giving you a guided informational tour. This is such a special way to see the island, in fact we don’t think there is a better way to see the beauty of our home. If you’re lucky, some curious dolphins will start playing behind the boat, make sure to cheer them on!

Catch the sunset on the beach, and the sunrise on the causeway Islands. This is an absolute MUST! There’s nothing like a Sanibel Sunrise and Sunset, watching it rise and set on the water is picture-perfect.
