    Manatee May Madness

    Sanibel Octifest
May 13th, 2008. Today on Sanibel Island a few lucky individuals witnessed a very unusual sight. Approximately 20 manatees had gathered in the shallow tidal zone on the bayside of the Lighthouse in an amazing display of mating ritual behavior. Octifest Fever Runs Wild on Sanibel Island!

    Sanibel Octifest
Octifest was created in 2008 as a signature event to support the Sanibel Sea School. The first event had local residents running from bay to sea clutching cryptic clues. Nesting a new event in the Sanibel Captiva Social Calendar is always a challenge to build awareness, and the first Octifest was hard to miss. The first year each lucky islander won an original Luc Century hand etched vase!

Sanibel Draw Bridge No Longer an Excuse

Sanibel Draw Bridge No Longer an Excuse

Okay, we have all used the bridge as an excuse for being late. How many times have we approached that span in the bridge with trepidation glanced down at our watch only to confirm what we already knew - the minute hand was nearing the dreaded half hour mark. Is my watch a few minutes fast? Will I make it over the metal grate span before the lights begin to flash and the bells alarm? Who will win today driver or draw bridge? Whew, I just made it by two cars. I'm lucky today, I would think to myself, I beat the bridge!

Sanibel Island and the Vietnam Wall?

Sanibel Island and the Vietnam Wall?

Sanibel residents are proud to know the man that pioneered a technique for engraving over 58,000 names in stone spending countless hours carefully listing each soldier lost in the Vietnam War.
