David Ruhe grew up in Dayton, OH and credits his mother as one of his biggest influences in his life as she was a talented impressionist artist. As a self-taught artist David remembers being a child who loved to draw. In his twenties, David became interested in the space program and began creating space art which he found difficult to sell.
In 1992, he was an artist in residence at a small gallery in Matlacha, FL when his career began to blossom. Living amongst the beauty of the southwest Florida islands and being inspired by the beautiful beaches of Sanibel and Captiva, David’s talent evolved into painting wildlife scenes. David admits that he is fascinated with nature and enjoys painting a variety of subject matter from meticulous scenes of distant planets and galaxies to familiar wildlife right here on earth. David enjoys using humor in his paintings and many times depicts birds invading a home in a whimsical way. David has won numerous awards for his creations and his works of art can be seen at many galleries throughout the United States.
