FACT or FICTION?: It has been told that Jimmy Buffet penned the song "Cheeseburger in Paradise" on Cabbage Key after a day of fishing and of course a cheese burger at the Cabbage Key Inn. Now that may or may not be true as there are several tropical restaurants that make this same claim.
FUN FACTS: Cabbage Key was named for the large number of Cabbage Palms growing on this small island and is home to many Gopher Tortoises. In 1929, the Rinehart family bought the island for $2,500. The island sits atop a Caloosa Indian Mound that rises 38 feet above sea level. The original home which is now the inn and restaurant has 6 fireplaces - as it was designed to be a Winter home. If you want to roll back time and see Old Florida at it's finest, make a trip to Cabbage Key.
