Enjoy this Film Clip from Kip's Childhood Memories:
He was 10 when the family told him they were moving to an island off the West Coast of Florida. Kip ran to a map and tried to find Sanibel on the map. They moved in 1972 from Milwaukee where Kip's dad Bob Buntrock took a job with one the condominium projects on Sanibel. Kip found friends quickly that introduced him to fish, fishing, and the waters around Sanibel Island. His first encounter with a fish was a Mullet jumping in an Island canal. Kip loved going to the air strip off of Casa Ybel road. Watching the small planes land was great entertainment.
Having a boat as a kid was just great. Kip got his first boat when he was 13. The kids used the boats just like cars to go to Little Shaw Island for a burger or Cabbage Key for the day. They would circumnavigate the island by boat just to prove they lived on an island. Kip is the last member of his family to still live on Sanibel. "Why would I ever leave? This place is special. Folks work all year just to spend one week on this Island where I live" said Kip "I'm staying".
