Fun Fact: Most of the first road names on Sanibel were created by pioneers to describe where they went: East Gulf, Middle Gulf, West Gulf Drive, San-Cap Road, Tarpon Bay Road, and even Casa Ybel Road all described where they went. As Sam Bailey recalled, "there were lots of periwinkles along the main road on Sanibel so it was named Periwinkle Way and there were always rabbits to be seen along Rabbit Road."
