Santiva
LAST UPDATED: 01 January 2020

The Santiva name comes from a time before the Causeway. Santiva was the name of the boat that delivered supplies and mail to the people of Sanibel and Captiva until the Causeway was completed in 1963. A replica of the old Santiva mail and supply boat can be experienced at The History Gallery of the Captiva Island Historical Society. Locals and visitors can view Santiva's helm, interactive panels, and maritime charts at the exhibit's bow.

Sanibel Island's curved shape makes it the perfect net for shells that are washing through the Gulf of Mexico. There are over 400 species of shells and sea life in the area, making the Island a world-famous shelling destination. This area is also great for fishing, taking the boat out or kayaking.

Santiva is the small section right before the bridge connecting Sanibel and Captiva together. There is a Santiva convenience store, Lazy Flamingo, brightly colored cottages, Sunset Grille and the fine dining restaurant the Mad Hatter.

The Santiva General Store has a great little porch out front. The store has just about anything you need. Ice cream, lunch, snacks and so much more!

Lazy Flamingo Restaurant - This is the original Lazy Flamingo and one of the best kept secrets by the locals. The “Lazy” is the best sort of beach dive bar and is as casual as it can get. Fun Tip: kids meals are served on a souvenir Lazy Flamingo Frisbee.

With only 20 tables this quaint establishment always makes sure each customer experiences a sunset while dining here.
