Snow Free Sanibel Island
LAST UPDATED: 23 January 2019

Leave your snow shovel at home. Sanibel's forecast: NO SNOW... EVER!

Okay this may be a stretch of the truth. The last officially recorded show in our area occurred in 1899 with snow reported as far south as Fort Myers on the West Coast and Fort Pierce on the East Coast of Florida. In 2002 a record cold snap produced snow flurries in the Miami area but not here on the West Coast.

So leave your snow shovels, boots, ice scrappers, and sidewalk salt at home. Don't bother packing an overcoat, or anything made of wool. On some of our coldest days on Sanibel when we are out in the elements (usually a February Friday Night Youth Flag Football Game) you will find locals donning their best winter wardrobe: usually a sleeping bag or blanket wrapped around their body to block the wind. Sanibel Sideline Fashion for sure!

You can still make a "sand angel" in our snow-white soft sand beaches. No mittens required.
